Smiling woman with braces

Braces

Misalignment can do more than make us embarrassed to smile. It can also cause serious oral health problems. Fortunately, braces are a highly effective treatment that can straighten even the most severe cases of misalignment. NÃœVA Smile, serving patients across New Jersey, can provide effective orthodontic solutions based on your unique needs.

The Benefits of Braces,  FASTBRACES®, and OrthoFX clear aligners

Straighter Teeth

Straighter teeth look healthier and more attractive than crooked teeth. After your treatment, you can expect a straighter, more dazzling smile that makes you feel more confident.

Fewer Dental Problems

Because straight teeth are easier to clean, you may be less prone to decay and all the problems it can lead to. Additionally, orthodontics can give you a more even bite that puts less strain on your teeth.

Preventative Treatment

When a child receives braces in their developmental stages, the braces can help prevent more complex dental problems later in life that may prove costly to correct.

Cost-Effective

Metal braces are the least expensive orthodontic treatment to correct major misalignment. And braces are highly effective. They also help prevent dental problems that can be costly to fix.

Achieve a Straighter Smile At NÃœVA Smile

Eatontown Office interior

Our offices across New Jersey have skilled orthodontists who can use their advanced skills to give you or your child straighter teeth and all the benefits that come along with an attractive smile and balanced bite. We can develop a treatment plan that is specific to your goals and within your budget.

If you have crooked teeth or an uneven bite, we invite you to request a consultation at one of our many practices serving New Jersey:

What to Expect During Your Consultation

During your consultation at NÃœVA Smile, one of our orthodontists will examine the position of each tooth, the alignment of the jaws, and the shape of your dental arches. Our practices have advanced imaging technology, such as digital X-rays and 3D panoramic digital imaging, that we can use to plan your treatment and determine the best way for each tooth to move into its ideal alignment.

Once your orthodontist has a better idea of your treatment plan, they will be able to provide you with an idea of how frequent your checkups will be and how long you may need to wear your braces.

What to Expect When Receiving Braces

Once you or your child has been approved for braces, you can expect these steps from one of our New Jersey orthodontists:

Our offices are easily accessible and our team is fluent in several different languages: Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic, Spanish, and Polish.

Preparation

Your orthodontist will take impressions of your teeth. Spacers may be placed prior to receiving your brackets and wires to make room for the orthodontic bands.

Brackets and Wires

Our orthodontist will adhere a bracket to each tooth. If spacers were used prior to your treatment, they will be removed. The orthodontic bands are placed and a wire is threaded through the brackets and secured in place with elastics.

Checkups

Your orthodontist will periodically tighten or adjust your braces. You may feel some discomfort after these appointments, but that can be managed by taking over-the-counter pain medication, applying a cool compress to your jaw, and drinking cold water or eating soft, cold foods. This discomfort should only be temporary.

Remove Brackets and Wires

At your final orthodontic appointment, your braces will be removed and more impressions of your teeth will be taken. You will be provided with a retainer to wear, typically at night, to keep your teeth from returning to their old positions.

Caring for Your Braces

While undergoing this orthodontic treatment, it's important to properly care for your braces. In addition to attending regular checkups with your dentist, you can care for your teeth and braces at home by following some guidelines:

Brush Your Teeth

Brush your teeth after every meal to ensure your braces are free of any food debris that allows bacteria to grow, causing decay. Remove any elastics from your braces and any other parts that can be removed. Use your toothbrush to gently remove any food debris from your brackets and wires, then use your toothbrush to gently clean all surfaces of your teeth.

Floss Your Teeth

Floss between each tooth once a day to maintain good oral health as you undergo orthodontic treatment. To make things easier, you can use a floss threader to maneuver around your braces. You may also consider using a water flosser.

Rinse Your Mouth

After brushing, use mouthwash or water to rinse out your mouth and then check your teeth and braces to make sure all food debris has been removed.

Monitor Your Braces

Be mindful of the condition of your braces. If you notice something's amiss or you have a popped wire, you may need to schedule an appointment with your orthodontist.

Avoid Certain Foods

While you have braces, you will need to avoid foods that are sticky and hard like taffy, popcorn, and peanut brittle. These foods can easily get stuck in your braces or damage them.

Maintaining Your Straight Teeth

/

Once your braces have been removed, you will be provided with a custom-made retainer. You may be instructed to wear your retainer for several hours each day and every night indefinitely. This retainer will hold each tooth in its new position as the jawbone heals around it, maintaining your results for years to come.

We Can Perform Your Orthodontic Treatment From Start to Finish

If you're in the state of New Jersey and you need orthodontics, we invite you to request a consultation with an orthodontist at one of our conveniently located dental offices. We provide patients with a wide range of dental services and can perform every stage of your orthodontic treatment, so you can receive the care you need all under one roof.

We invite you to request a consultation for orthodontics today. If you have questions, leave us a message and we'll get back to you:

Which Orthodontic Option Is Best for Children?

Traditional braces are often the best orthodontic option for children. With removable aligners like Invisalign, the wearer is responsible for remembering to wear their aligner trays. With traditional braces, patients don't have to remember to wear their braces and they can't be misplaced.

Additionally, by adopting a routine, braces can be easy to care for. The primary concern is ensuring your child remembers to brush their teeth after every meal. After that, braces simply require periodic maintenance from one of our New Jersey orthodontists.

Children as young as eight can be eligible for braces.
